Q: Have you ever accidentally kissed a stranger like in the movies? (When you got kissed by a stranger)
Yesterday I found this question on Quora and responded. Since then it has garnered over 17k views and 650+ upvotes. Sharing the answer here. 🙂
A: I was so avoiding this question. I was trying so hard to control and not give in to the temptation and answer this question. But it just kept popping up. Again and again. Couldn’t keep myself from not answering any more.
So here is my story.
It was the year of 2008. It was winters and I was at home for the winter break. On one of the weekends I went out with my friends for clubbing and found myself very high in one of the high-end night clubs of Delhi.
Being an “occasional drinker”, a few sips of alcohol were enough to make my head go buzz. So it was only about thirty minutes in the club and I was dancing like a monkey, with my hands swaying on both sides causing amusement and also discomfort to the people dancing around me.
Such high were my spirits that I kept on dancing as if there was no tomorrow.
Suddenly, as it happens in situations like this, a drunkard -“Not me” -pushed a fairly well built dude, by mistake. He, in turn, tumbled over the two girls who were dancing with him.
As he was pushed from behind, he didn’t get to see the face of the boy who bumped into him. But when he turned around, he saw me jumping and trying to do all kinds of weird moves which must have appeared to him as a very bad attempt at doing Kick boxing.
In a moment he made a judgement that it was me who pushed him. He lunged towards me, held me by my collar and landed a blow on my face.
I fell down. Like a dead log.
Before I went down I saw one of the girls with him rushing towards us. As I lay on the floor, the girl explained to this dude that it was some other guy who had pushed him. This dude without ever saying a sorry to me, turned around like a mad bull and got lost in the crowd in search for that person. But this girl helped me get up and we went to a corner where she apologized like hundred times for what had happened.
While talking to me she kept on looking towards my left part of the face which must have swelled up as a result of the punch which I had taken only a few moments ago. She touched it gently and asked if it hurts. It did hurt. But I replied it didn’t.
Then I don’t know what it was -the dim lights of the club, slight high she must have felt because of vodka (she told me later that she had a glass of vodka), or the simple fact that I was that innocent boy who got beaten up for no reason, she said I looked cute and kissed, first below my left eye where I was punched (it still hurt) and then on my lips.
It wasn’t a dream. I pinched myself to confirm that.
We exchanged numbers that night. Dated for a full month. And had the best time of our lives together.
After that she left for the USA to do MS, and I joined a manufacturing company in a remote village in Uttaranchal. We both agreed that long distance relationship won’t work for us and parted on amicable terms.
But that night, that kiss, I still remember as if it was only yesterday.
