There is an inherent beauty in the moment in which two strangers meet each other. The way in which their completely separate existences come together and meshes into a single reality of that one perfect moment. A moment when the path of their respective life journeys, originating from the far-off lands of diverse customs and different circumstances, sometimes many miles and many years apart, merges into a single event which they share together.
A moment with immense possibilities and outcomes, for nobody knows what this confluence can bring forth, what can happen between these strangers who didn’t matter to each other, until this moment. And it is this immense potential that makes this moment so beautiful and magical.
For in this moment when they come together they are brought together by the millions of seemingly detached and disconnected gears and levers of this universe which we call destiny. These small contraptions work day and night, every single minute, every single hour, totally unaware of what their actions will ultimately create.
The school your parents selected for you, the friends you made and liked, the subjects you end up taking together with them, the one college you chose over the other three you rejected, the job interview you cracked just because you felt confident that day, the city you ended up living in for work, the football match you attended with a friend and his friends on one seemingly ordinary evening (which to note is the only football match you’ve ever watched in your life) and then a party invitation you accepted, which you would have ignored otherwise but for the outing that got cancelled because your friends ditched you at the last moment.
So you went to that party, and realize you felt out of the place, you didn’t fancy the music that was playing, so you went out into the balcony to take some fresh air, thinking about your friends that didn’t come, the outing that you didn’t go, and you realize how futile this party and this life is, and you are bored so much that you decide to head back. And in that moment, in that exact moment, when you turned your head, you found that a girl was standing in the corner, the same girl which you’d met during that one football match that you’d gone to watch, many many months back. You’d not connected much with her during that meeting or after that. But standing in the balcony, on that star studded moonless night, you somehow connect with her, and something told that you should talk to her.
You hesitate for a moment, for you are not an extrovert guy. You think about letting it go, that she wouldn’t even remember you, that you will only end up being a distraction and a nuisance to her. So you decide to leave. But something inside you still pulls you back, pulls you towards her, and you without thinking, without listening to the rational monster in your head that you almost always listen to, and you decide to continue in her direction, and talk to her, in the same enchanted state in which a mayfly follows in the direction of a light source.
And your life is not same after that.
Because it is one of those perfect moments, with its immense potential which brings together two complete strangers with their journeys so diverse and so unaware of each other, that until that moment, it was unimaginable that such chance event can occur, that they could meet. And it is this unexpectedness that takes us by surprise.
And you hit it off instantly with her. Your jagged life experiences meshing perfectly into each other. The things that you didn’t know she knows, the experiences you had she doesn’t. Every moment rolling forth in a natural state one after the other, without the least amount of effort or strain, and in no time, your differences, your unfamiliarity melts away, and your combined reality becomes like that river which was two different rivers only a few moments back, beyond the conflux, with different courses and directions. But now after that moment perfect moment, you end up being one, with a new direction in life, a new purpose of your existences.
That’s how I met her, and that’s how we meet that one special person who changes our life for good, for ever.
